I really enjoyed my meal here the food was very good and the staff was pleasant. All the dishes I had were all very good and came out in a reasonable amount of time. Are drinks were always refilled and our waitress was always quick to ask if we needed anything else. The restroom was immaculate and the bar was very clean and organized. During the day it's pretty quiet and at night it's not very loud like other pubs/bars. I'd recommend this to everyone.

I really don't want to review this restaurant/bar because I selfishly want to keep this little gem hidden. The atmosphere is a dark neighborhood bar, hole in the wall...and I love it! They have incredible cocktails with spectacular depth and flavor. Always a good selection of craft brews are on tap and in bottle. The bartender is by far friendly, courteous, and personable. The food was incredible, and we were all impressed. The menu is limited, but in a good way. I get turned off with huge menus. If you can do something great with a few things, that is by far better than having a plethora of mediocracy. They have traditional Irish food, burgers, appetizers, and soups that are phenomenal. I have many bars in Bar Harbor that hold a special place in my heart, and Leary's is now top of that list. By far a great bar.

My wife and I were looking for something different than the standard lobster fare. Found this on Yelp and decided to try it. Good Irish pub atmosphere. Limited draft beers but did have the usual a like Guinness, Harp, and a few custom ones. They were out of the Irish Stew that I was wanting so we both had a very good Shepards pie. A satisfying experience.

Tucked away in Bar Harbor, we stumbled upon this restaurant. Overall, we had a good experience here. The ambiance is clean, cozy and snug, as it's pretty tight in there (around 3 or 4 tables and 5 bar stools). While we were there, only one man managing, serving, and mixing drinks. He was friendly and helpful. I ordered the beef stew. I thought it was very tasty. The meet was very tender. I went with my parents and my sister. My mom and sister ordered the Shepard's pie, which I tasted and thought was also good. My dad had the bangers and mash and enjoyed it. My only issue was that the dishes seemed smaller in portion. For the price, you should be able to get a bit more. Other than that, it's a good place to stop into. They have a variety of drinks and beers on tap. It's the closest American Irish pub to Ireland itself, which, in my opinion, is pretty neat. Need to say the least, I had an enjoyable experience.

Asked the bar tender to surprise me with a drink and she made me the best blueberry mule ever!!! They have games available on the tables and the food was really good!

Leary's Landing is the definition of a hole in the wall pub. Unless you are actively looking at the sign and down the alley, you could definitely walk past and not even notice it. The pub is extremely small, but very homey and very Irish. The owner/bartender was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive to his customers. Definitely a great pub to check out in Bar Harbor.

Cozy little Irish bar that is tucked away on Mt. Desert Street. It's a great little bar to stop in for a drink, watch a game on TV, or play an old-school board game. They age their alcohol in wood barrels for a month (? I think) and have different cocktails made with the aged-liquors. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgable.

    (4)
  • Emily D.

Great hole in the wall restaurant and bar! Fun cocktail options and small but fantastic menu options! The blueberry mule was delicious! I recommend the baked Brie and shepperd's pie. The bartender was soo friendly and honest! Love this place! Very down to earth and homie

Great service. Blueberry Mule was very tasty. For food we had the Leary Burger. Fantastic. Google maps is off on this one. It's tiny and hard to find but worth it. More east towards Main Street.

It is not the largest menu or location, but best food in town. Friendly staff, and food will definitely meet expectations. Very reasonable prices, best shepherd's pie I have ever had.

Surprisingly good food, and a cozy feel. We popped in at the height of the tourist season (late July) because a couple of places higher on Yelp had waits that were way too long. Also, we were kind of sick of seafood at the moment (too many lobster rolls). The place was empty; only two drunk guys who greeted us with a yell, "Best damn bar in Bar Harbor." Maybe they were right. My wife and I each had burgers and hard ciders, and everything was really good. The cider was served with ice, which we were told was traditional for that type of hard cider. Bartender was very friendly, too. Even though we were there in July, I kept thinking that this was the place I'd hang out in Bar Harbor in November.

Cute and cozy Irish bar that feels like it's been here forever! Irish music playing, great Guinness pour and owners are really sweet and personable. Very happy we stumbled into this place on our way back to our cottage. Wish I could come here everyday. It's the sweetest place.

Leary's is a small pub located in the heart of Bar Harbor. It has a bar and three tables, so I recommend eating on the earlier side. I ordered the pub fries and the shepherd pie and my friend ordered the mussels and the bangers and mash. We split the fries and mussels and they were melt in your mouth delicious. The sauce that they make the mussels in was out of this world and the balsamic vinaigrette on the fries had me wanting to lick the plate. The entrees were delicious, but I would have to say the appetizers stole the show. My one negative is there was no air conditioning, but nothing about the food or the service. A pleasant surprise!

Great little Irish Pub in Bar Harbor only seats about 25 but an authentic Irish Pub and atmosphere. Whiskey selection is amazing and good beer selection. A real treasure!

Food was not flavorful. We ordered the burger and avocado and crab salad, and neither was good. Fries were fairly good. Friendly service.

This place is great. A good place to stop for a Guinness during the day, to hang and play the board games, to watch the game or party at night. They have a bunch of shut the box games which are good fun and the bartender will explain the rules if you don't know them. The food is provided from the restaurant next door and is far better than the decor would lead you to believe. A solid Irish pub in the heart of Bar Harbor.

Awesome! Small, intimate place tucked back from the shops. If you are looking for an unpretentious watering hole with nice appetizers, good food, and a great bartender (Cody!), this is your place.

What a fantastic little place in Bar Harbor. Great atmosphere, fantastic staff and really competitive prices. Also, probably one of the biggest TV's I've ever seen. I think it's pretty rare to find a good, authentic (well, as authentic as one would expect outside of Ireland) pub, and Leary's Landing pretty much gets there. Definitely one of the better bars in Bar Harbor -- great atmosphere!

    (5)
  • Katie C.

We had both ordered a burger that was supposed to come with blue cheese and bacon. They changed the bacon to onions without telling us. Not a bad combination, but when you are expecting bacon and get onions it is disappointing. The burgers were very thin and you couldn't really taste it over the onions. We did get two great draft beers. Warning, our bartender was surfing the internet with the computer that was hooked up to the POS so you might want to pay cash.

I only tried the lobster bisque here, which tasted delicious by the way, but I'm giving it five stars for the TVs. This was the best place by far to watch the World Cup on Bar Harbor. The dude who runs the place is also very chill and friendly. Would come back here

We randomly stumbled upon this place while on a week long vacation and ended up returning again and again and again, for both food and drinks. The staff here are super cool; genuine people-people, not just friendly in an obligatory way. This is such a perfectly cozy little pub. It's tiny but the size of it works really well. You kind of feel like you are at a private party. There's a fireplace! I wish I could go back tonight... I can't say enough good things. If there was a pub like this near my house I would probably drink a lot more. We ended up making friends with the some of the other customers here and that's not normally our style at all. I think it's the magic of Leary's.

Just some quick notes. girlfriend ordered the clams... In a hole in the wall Irish pub? Ok, whatever. Sauteed with butter, fennel, white wine? jalapenos. They were AMAZING! A totally unexpected treat with a little heat and it totally worked. then pub fries... again, amazing. great fries, drizzled with reduced balsamic vinegar, plus bacon and shaved Parmesan. WOW! Oh yes and some sour cream. Then the pub burger... Perfectly cooked. great blue cheese. and a Guinness. We were very happily stuffed when we waddled out of this very tiny place.

A cozy little pub that's tucked in between some shops. Although it is small, it reminded me of a pub straight out of Ireland. Their fries with all the fixings were amazingly delicious! They have games and books on the tables to play or peruse.

I'm not sure how, but I missed this place the last bazillion times I've gone to Maine. It's certainly tucked away on one of the side streets so you'll miss it if you're not looking for the sign. The place is rather small, quaint, and the bartender I had the pleasure of dealing with was straight off the boat Irish. He was a nice guy, great sense of humor and he always kept the Guinness coming. Also had the soccer match on, but I can't blame him! I didn't have the pleasure of having anything to eat there, although I will make it a point to do that when I go back in a few months. Take it from a Jersey tourist who goes there.....try it out!

Leary's is a small pub that seems to cater to a lot of locals. We stopped in based on the positive yelp reviews and we enjoyed our experience. It is very small though. There are maybe 8 tables in addition to a short bar. There was only one bar tender on duty during our visit. He seemed a little overworked trying to keep up with each table as well as the wacky ladies at the bar. The food was good, but it can best be described as bar food. The Canadians at our B&B watched the Stanley Cup finals here and seemed to think it was a great place to watch a sporting event, even though Boston beat their Canucks, so if there is a game you are interested in catching while in Bar Harbor, you might check Leary's out.

    (5)
  • John H.

Tiny tiny tiny with a mediocre liquor selection and modest on tap selection.

    (3)
  • Renee S.

It was a nice pub environment with Irish music playing and two large TVs playing different sporting events. We had the Irish Nachos, not realizing that we got fries with our burgers. So note--if you order a burger, you get fries with that automatically. The Irish Nachos were good, no human being should be eating that many fries. The service was courteous, albeit a bit self-service. It seems people kind of drift in and drift out. No one really stays for very long, and its always busy.

We stopped at Leary's Landing after reading the menu on their website. We sat down and ordered a drink. It was a pretty small place, but it was not packed. We asked for a dinner menu. As it turns out, the menu they handed us was not the same menu as the website describes. The menu we received had maybe 10 items on it. No fish and chips, no shepherd's pie, no grilled cheese... Need I say more? We left after our drink.

  • Nicole O.

Full disclosure: My friends Peter and Christina own the place. Leary's is as other reviewers described it a great place for locals and non-locals alike. Laid back and small, sometimes Leary's has live music (smaller groups) or other special events which they are great about publicizing on their Facebook page.

Cute little Irish bar in the midst of Bar Harbor. Frequented by locals more than tourists so talking to the bartender was interesting when it wasn't crowded during the day. At night it was very crowded and loud. A fun place highly recommended bar to check out if you're looking to get a drink in BH.

Leary's Landing Irish Pub is truly a hidden gem in Bar Harbour. It's slightly set back from it's immediate neighbouring premises, perhaps explaining why it is seemingly undiscovered. The pub is quite small with just a few tables but this adds to the charm and the feeling of 'discovery'. The efficient, friendly service is certainly a huge welcome and massive contrast to some of the nearby watering holes, and there's a fantastic selection of local, national and international beers, ales and lagers. I went there as part of a group of 9 people (and we practically all had different drinks) and it was probably the highlight of our evening. I would definitely come back here again.

Spent New Year's Eve in Bar Harbor, Maine. Not a lot going on here since most places are closed for the season and the tourists have all gone South for the winter. What made our night was finding Leary's Landing. The place is small, warm and cozy and the bartender Chris Heaton is the best. We met lots of great people - mostly locals. Started out at Leary's for a pre-dinner drink then headed off to McKay's for dinner. Ended up back at Leary's to usher in the New Year (free champagne for all) and closed the place. Lots of good memories. Thanks Chris. See you next year!

If you're in Bar Harbor, Leary's Landing should be one of your first stops. Leary's is the local Irish pub, and I mean local. It is a mainstay on Cottage St. It is not uncommon in the early summer or end-of-season to see the streets of Bar Harbor quiet and empty; while at the same time, the bar of Leary's is fast making the night complete for it's patrons. The atmosphere is light and fun, with a dozen beers on draft including local names such as Longtrail, Belfast Brewing Company, Atlantic Brewing Company, etc. As a full bar, any of the hilarious and oft crowd-pleasing bartenders can make you your night's flavor. They have a pub menu provided by next-door neighbor Route 66 including wings, burgers and sandwiches. For those of you who might be local, or at least often visitors, Owners Peter and Christina have a designed a schooner club. $50 buys you a lovely 32 fl. oz. schooner complete with a metal name plate, scribed with your choice of moniker. The very first pour is included in the price of the schooner, and after that it is only the price of a 16 fl. oz. beer to fill it. Quite a deal for those of you who visit as often as I do. A happy bunch can always be found at Leary's.

This is a great, small local hangout with a very inviting and unassuming atmosphere. I've been coming to Bar Harbor for many years and never knew this place was there, because it's a bit back from the road behind another restaurant, even though it's right in the middle of town. We each had a beer (they have Stella Artois on tap, which I haven't seen much here in the US, and I was happy to have it again), I got the burger and my fiance got the buffalo wings. The food was ready quickly and was quite good, especially for "bar food." The bartender was very fast, friendly and informal. This was a great place to spend a few hours and I can't wait to go back.

I don't understand the good reviews. This bar was welcoming, but nothing special atmosphere-wise. Most importantly, a tap beer beer I ordered tasted funny. It was a local brew so I thought maybe it was some "creative" flavor, and asked bartender to check it. He said he didn't know how it was supposed to taste, so couldn't tell me. A bartender at Irish bar did not know what his beer was supposed to tasted like. Enough said.

What a fun place this is. I was in town for 3 night in May 2008 and spent a few hours each night hanging out and drinking Guinness. The owners are Peter and Christina and the bartender the nights I was there was Christian. Lots of seasonal employees were coming into town for the summer and mixed very well with the tourists. People in Bar Harbor tend to bar hop so make sure you put this place on your list of bars to hop to.

Tiny tiny tiny with a mediocre liquor selection and modest on tap selection.

Full disclosure: My friends Peter and Christina own the place. Leary's is as other reviewers described it a great place for locals and non-locals alike. Laid back and small, sometimes Leary's has live music (smaller groups) or other special events which they are great about publicizing on their Facebook page.

We love this cozy yet vibrant Irish bar. We stop by everytime we are in Bar Harbor. Wish we lived closer.

We visited on our BH pub crawl and stopped in for a pint. This place is cool and good for a few beverages.

One of our favorite spots to grab a drink in Bar Harbor. Always great service and a great atmosphere. They stay open year round and have a great local following!

Small? intimate. Good people, good beer, attentive service. Didn't eat but wish I had.

Cute little bitty irish bar. Came here for happy hour. The Irish music was a nice touch, but I bet the bartender gets sick of it after awhile.
